Susan Drake, M.S., R.D.

Susan Drake, a Colorado native, is a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist holding a Certification in Weight Management through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She graduated from Colorado State University with her Bachelor of Science in 1991 and received her Masters in Nutrition and Dietetics from Eastern Illinois University in 1994. She has been a Registered Dietitian since 1994.

During her 19-year career, she has had a vast array of experiences in the nutrition field. She coached hundreds of clients on their journey to weight loss, weight maintenance and wellness at Dr. Lazarus's Clinical Nutrition Center in Denver for 6 years. After leaving Clinical Nutrition Center, she worked for Microlife MedicalHome Solutions implementing weight loss programs based on measuring metabolism. "It's important to measure resting metabolism and not just estimate. Many weight scales that estimate caloric needs, over estimate. Understanding how many calories are needed in a day will significantly increase one's knowledge and how to maintain or lose weight. In addition, by measuring metabolism, I have been able to direct clients to their physician to have their Thyroid checked. If a metabolism is significantly slow, Hypothyroidism may be present".

Since leaving Microlife Medical Home Solutions, she has been focused on developing her own weight loss program. Healthin12 was created based on her own experiences and science. It incorporates 12 weeks of educational modules, food and exercise logging platforms and a behavioral health component. All aspects are key for long-term success. The program will be launched in August.

Her philosophy is to eat clean and in moderation as well as stay active to increase energy and be healthy. She also works with clients to set realistic goals. Setting unrealistic goals can lead to frustration and failure. Her approach is to lose weight by taking a "stair step" approach. Meaning, lose 5 - 10% of a current body weight and learn to maintain it. Once maintenance is achieved, shoot for another 5 - 10% if that is desired. Take it slow, no miracle diets, no magic pills and life-long success can be mastered. It's all about mastering new habits.

In her spare time, she enjoys hiking with her 2 Labradoodles - Joe and Allie, traveling, cooking, gardening and golf to name a few. Any activity, summer or winter, as long as it's outside, is where she likes to be.
